A brief History of the Evangelical Church of Maraland (ECM):

 

Lakher Pioneer Missionaries


Maraland is located in Siaha District on the Southern part of Mizoram in

North East India. Lorrain Founded a Mission Society known as “Lakher Pioneer Mission” in London on 11 Feb, 1905 in order to reach for the lost souls of the people of Maraland. The Lorrains have given the name of the Church “The Evangelical Church of Maraland.” The first Church was established in 1916. The theology of the Church has always been that of Reformed faith in general. The Primary task of the Church is Evangelism. The Church is pastured and nurtured by the Theological trained native Pastors. All the Local Churches have been centralized under the General Assembly, the highest authority of the Church. The Presbyterian form of Church government is being practiced.

 

The ECM Church is Democratic, Centralized and Congregational. It stresses lay leadership, preaching and teaching, and it is financially self-support. Therefore, ECM is self-governing, self-supporting and self-propagating. The ECM is a constituent member of the NEICC, CBCNEI, a full member of the WCRC, IFFEC.
